How to watch Paramount+ on a third-generation Apple TV

Owners of a third-generation Apple TV can still watch Paramount+ content, despite the CBS All Access app dropping support for that model.

Paramount+ is a rebranding and expansion of CBS All Access that launched on March 4. As part of the move to the new service, ViacomCBS told users in January that the third-generation Apple TV would be losing support to the CBS All Access app and the rebranded Paramount+.

As it turns out, that loss of support only applies to the dedicated CBS app. Apple site Appleosophy points out that it’s still possible to access Paramount+ content on the third-generation Apple TV through the use of Apple TV Channels.

Users can sign up for Paramount+ content through Apple TV Channels on their iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. Here’s how.

  • On an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, open the Apple TV app.
  • Head to the Apple TV Channels section.
  • Locate and select Paramount+
  • Subscribe to Paramount+ using the Apple TV Channels option.
  • Once you’re signed up, you’ll be able to watch Paramount+ content via Apple TV Channels on your third-generation Apple TV.

This does require that a third-generation Apple TV is running at least Apple TV software version 7.3 to work, since that update adds the Apple TV app.

Paramount+ has a large catalog of more than 30,000 TV show episodes, 2,500 films, and more than 1,000 live sporting events. ViacomCBS is also going to continue adding content over the next few years.

The streaming service costs $9.99 a month for an ad-free experience, or $5.99 for an ad-supported one. Users can find out more and sign up for a one-month free trial on the Paramount+ website.
